Arturo Sandoval was born in 1949 in Havana Province, Cuba. At age twelve, he began by discovering many instruments. He finally fell in love with the trumpet. He attended the Cuban National School of Arts and studied there for three years. At the age of 16, he found himself in his first band, the all-star national band of Cuba.

His main influences were Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown. He got a chance to actually meet Dizzy Gillespie in 1977, who immediately became his mentor and eventually his colleague. Arturo Sandoval toured and became a citizen of the United States in 1999. He later went on to record with musicians and performers such as Gloria Estefan, Kenny G, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra and others. In 2006, he opened The Arturo Sandoval Jazz Club which is open for 6 nights of the week. He is there regularly and plays at least once a month at the club.
