Carl Hilding Severinsen, also known as Doc Severinsen, is well known around the world. He is especially known for his work leading the NBC Orchestra for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

In 1967, he became the bandleader for the NBC’s Tonight Show. He turned it into the most popular big band in America. Doc Severinsen played solos on recordings from the 1950’s through the 1960’s. In the 1970’s through to the early ‘90’s, he made many albums with the name “The Tonight Show Band with Doc Severinsen”. As of 2009, he performs in restaurants in Mexico, where he lives.
