As a leader in music education and lead command as a trumpeter, Jon Faddis shaped the world of music one note at a time. He was the first trumpeter to closely resemble Dizzy Gillespie who was an icon in his time.
He started off playing lead trumpet in the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra when he was 18 years of age. He then started appearing in recordings from the late 1970’s into the early 1980’s. He started a career as a soloist in the mid eighties and produced the records Legacy, Into The Faddisphere and Homucopia. From 1992-2002 he led the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and conducted more than 40 concerts.
He has led many organizations and taught in many places. He is currently teaching at The Conservatory of Music at Purchase College - SUNY in New York. He also lectures at Columbia College Chicago and is the Artistic Director of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble.
