Valentine Snow is a trumpeter from many years back, who lived from 1700-1770. In his day he was the best trumpeter in England as well as Europe as a whole. He became popular because he was chosen to follow John Shore as the sergeant trumpeter for the King. This alone made him automatically the most respected trumpeter in England.
Although his first priority was to be the sergeant-trumpeter to the king, which he did until his death, he also performed in other places as well. One of the most notable of these places was in Handel’s orchestra. In fact, Handel actually wrote very specific trumpet parts for Valentine Snow. These trumpet parts were often very challenging.
Valentine Snow's fame still lives on today and his importance remains, as evidenced by a portrait that is hanging in Fenton House in London. Unlike many other trumpeters' portraits, his has survived the years.
